If you know me at all, you know I graduated with a degree in graphic design, and do freelance and things for work. So when you read the title some of you may think that I am going to take you through my creative process, how I take a project from start to completion. I’m not.
I like pretty things, now we may vary on what you and I think are pretty; so if you don’t like my style… well, I don’t know what to tell you. I’m kidding. You can decorate and create whatever you think is pretty, that’s how art works. Really. I’m just going to show a few things in my apartment that are easily re-creatable.
I am a visual learner, and though Buzzfeed’s quiz told me I use both sides of my brain equally I would like to object. You give me pictures i’ll remember it for years, word problems, I cannot even comprehend after reading 6 times.
That being said, when the verses talk about committing God’s word to memory, or to heart, I have to write them down. Draw them out. I have to do something that will help me visually remember it.
If you came over to my apartment you would see a lot of hand lettered things. Which people always ask how i’ve done, or what inspired them. I’ll tell you that you don’t have to be “creative” to do anything that’s hanging up in my house. I promise. You can totally go onto Pinterest and download stencils if you wanted. Or, get creative and freehand it, which in my opinion is the most fun. Or, thrift some stuff, have fun.
(Like I said no spiritual meaning, but cake for breakfast does sound magical, doesn’t it? Alas, scrambled eggs it is)
Like I mentioned before, lot of the time the different pieces i’ve made have come out of moment of listening to a song, reading a verse, or something the Lord has been teaching me over a season.
Here are some pictures I snapped on my phone during my lunch break today, and the things I used to make them. So, for those of you that think you can’t be creative, I promise you can.
Seriously, go to your local thrift store, buy a few frames and repaint them if you need to, get a nice pen and write out your favorite verse. Or, trace it from Pinterest (it’s fineeee) buy it from Etsy. Paint an old canvas and do the same thing. You can do it, I believe in you. (I’ll also be glad to help you do it, because I LOVE it, which is why my walls are becoming more and more full with these things.)
No matter what season i’m in I always need to be reminded of the truth. I should always be committing Scripture to memory. What better way to do that than put it right in front of you. Now, I know this is my personal style, this is not what everyone HAS to do. Although, chalkboards, those should be something you have. They’re just fun.
I hope you guys have enjoyed the small apartment tour, creative ideas, and have a great, relaxing Tuesday evening.
